Osmington Village

Osmington and the local West Dorset area is a very special part of the world. Osmington is a very special village, with picture perfect thatched cottages, and the cottage is set down a quiet country lane. John Constable spent his honeymoon in the village.  The surrounding area boasts lots to do, come rain or shine, there’s something for everyone. The end of the lane turns into a bridleway and following provides breathtaking country and coastal views, over the famous white horse and across to neighbouring villages. It has a popular dairy with farm shop and cafe, boasting an impressive variety of ice creams, cream teas etc the ideal pause before continuing a walk to the coast or the ever popular Smuggler's Inn pub. The Jurassic Coast is down the road from the cottage, there are cliftop pubs, beaches, seaside attractions, forts, castles, museums and farm shops to keep even the most action packed busy for your stay.

There are several nearby walkable beaches - the closest a 15 min walk, generally very quiet as only accesible by foot

The Smugglers Inn Pub

A half-hour walk will take you to a clifftop pub which has excellent service and boasts a charm like no other coastal pub.

The White Horse

An iconic landmark nestled on the hillside above the village. It was carved in 1883 depicting King George III riding his horse.

Sutton Poyntz Village

Walk to over to the next village of Sutton Poyntz, all with breathtaking views and clean crisp fresh air and village pub The Springhead.

The Jurassic Coast

Post Office Cottage is the perfect base to experience the wonders of the Jurassic Coast. Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove are two stunning sites a short (20 minute) car journey away. There is an open top bus which passes through the village, from the top of the road, which will take you to both destinations and on the Swanage. It’s a really fun day out to go by bus. Slightly further in the opposite direction are the famous Chesil Beach, Charmouth and Lyme Regis great places to explore, go fossil hunting and rock pooling.

Beaches

There are more local beaches to explore than days of your holiday, each is beautiful and unique in its own way, with options of golden sand, shingle and big rock to choose from. Many are walkable from the front door of the cottage, with the closest a brisk 20 minute walk away. Further along the coast the beach below the brilliant Smugglers Inn pub provides the perfect place for a beach and a pub with a stunning walk for an afternoon activity. Slightly further afield the award winning Weymouth beach and Ringstead Bay are a hike away but offer breathtaking views. Burton Bradstock, Hive Beach, West Bay and Lyme Regis beaches are 30-50 minute drives away. This is just a snapshot of the options for seaside fun in the local area.
